Linux network performance tuning

Linux networking has many tunables, which have pretty reasonable default values. However, if needed for high throughput, you can squeeze much more from your server by playing with iptables firewall rules, sysctl kernel settings and ethernet network interface buffers. This article explains some useful performance improvements, as well as the way to effectively work to improve performance by adjusting values and measuring effects.
